The Hellenic Army and my conscription

In 1999 the Hellenic Army sent me a Classification Note, ordering me to report to the Engineering Training Center to serve my conscription. Although the Internet was not very popular in Greece at that time, I tried to search for some information online in order to better prepare for the military life that was just around the corner.

All I found was a personal website with incorrect information regarding even the duration of this obligation (it stated that it was 24 months instead of 18 months in reality) and for this reason I decided to build the site you just discovered. On one hand to inform the new conscripts about what they will face during their military obligation, and on the other hand to present the equipment of the Greek army and to discuss the problems it faces.

The objective is:

  • to describe the prevailing culture and mentality
  • to suggest improvements when possible
  • to facilitate the adaptation of future conscripts

Service the Greek Army is a constitutional obligation and therefore an integral part of the lives of Greek citizens, but it is still surrounded by a veil of mystery that we must remove. If you spend a few hours reading the content of the site, you will discover many things you did not know and you will find yourself in an advantageous position over the rest of the conscripts who have in mind only old and - for the most part - outdated stories.
